Substance Use Disorder

A

A: Problematic pattern of substance use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, as manifested by at least 2 of the following, occurring within 12 month period:
1. Substance is often taken in larger amounts or over a longer period than was intended
2. There is a persistent desire or unsuccessful efforts to cut down or control substance use
3. A great deal of time is spent in activities necessary to obtain substance, use substance or recover from its effects
4. Craving, or a strong desire or urge to use substance
5. Recurrent substance use resulting in a failure to fulfill major role obligations at work, school or home
6. Continued substance use despite having persistent or recurrent social or interpersonal problems caused or exacerbated by the effects of alcohol
7. Important social, occupational or recreational activities are given up or reduced b/c of alcohol use
8. Recurrent substance use in situations which it’s physically hazardous
9. Substance use is continued despite knowledge of having a persistent or recurrent physical or psychological problem that’s likely to have been caused or exacerbated by substance
10. Tolerance
11. Withdrawal
Specify If:
In early remission-none of the criteria has been met for at least 3 mos but less than 12 mos
In sustained remission-criteria not met for 12 mos or longer
In a controlled environment
Specify Current Severity:
Mild: 2-3 sx
Moderate: 4-5 sx
Severe: 6 or more sx

Gambling Disorder

A

A: Persistent & recurrent problematic gambling behavior leading to a significant impairment or distress, as indicated by 4 or more of the following in a 12 month period:
1. Needs to gamble w/ increasing amounts of money in order to receive the desire excitement
2. Is restless or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop gambling
3. Has made repeated unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back or stop gambling
4. Often preoccupied with gambling
5. Often gambles when feeling distressed
6. After losing money gambling, often returns to get even
7. Lies to conceal the extent of gambling
8. Has jeopardized or lost a significant relationship, job or educational or career opportunitys
9. Relies on others to provide money to relieve desperate financial situations caused by gambling
B: Gambling behavior is not better explained by a manic episode
Specify If:
Episodic- meeting dx criteria at more than one point, w/ sx subsiding between periods of gambling disorder for at least several months
Persistent- experiencing continuous sx for multiple years
In early remission
In sustained remission
Specify Current Severity:
Mild: 4-5 criteria
Moderate: 6-7 criteria
Severe: 8-9 criteria
