A
Ecological succession is the change in species composition and community structure / function within an environment over time. It is continuous, unidirectional and sequential.

What is a climax community?
A
A climax community is the species composition of the final seral stage of succession, where a steady equilibrium is reached. It may be made up of one major species (monoclimax) or, more often, many species in a stable final community (polyclimax).
