it occurred at the Palu-Kora fault line which is a conservative plate boundary therefore tsunami were uncommon and not anticipated scientist believe the tsunami may have been caused by and underwater landslide from the earthquake, which meant that the communities were not prepared for the tsunami.
How did the sirens effect the severity of the Sulawesi earthquake?
Tsunamis sirens went of 10 minutes before the tsunami giving people little time to get out furthermore alerts sent out on phones wasn’t sent due to power lines being down.
