What is rennaisance music?
Sacred music - was music that was based on the bible or other sacred tets and was performed during church services
-secular music- was non-religious and usually based on poetry or short stories

What is baroque music?
The Baroque period is know for its extravagant and complex architecture and this art reflected in the music from this period to music fram this period too.
Instrumental music became
equally as important as vocal
music (the renaissance was predominantly vocal music)

• Ornamentation was used heavily.
• Ornamentation - the decoration of the melody by adding extra notes
• Opera became a popular genre as did oratorio
• Opera is a staged work for instrumants and voices are is mainly secular
• Oratorio - a non-staged work for instruments and voices that are religious
• The use of the harpsichord-a key instrument for providing bass lines and harmonics to pieces of music
