FInal Ditching Procedures
Transmit final position to ATC
Select flaps 40 or flap setting appropriate for existing conditions
Advise Cabin Crew of Imminent touchdown. Advise cabin crew and PAX to brace for impact
Maintain airspeed at Vref and 200-300 fpm descent.
Touch down on the upwind side and parallel to the waves or swells if possible. Rotate smoothly to a touchdown attitude of 10-12 degrees and maintain airspeed or rate of descent with thrust??
When the aircraft comes to a rest after ditching, what should be done?
initiate evacuation. Evacuate asap ensuring all PAX are out of aircraft
What reasons to abort an engine start
- N1 or N2 does not increase or increases very slowly after EGT increases (hung)
- No oil pressure indication by the time the engine is stable at idle
- The EGT does not increase 15 seconds after engine start lever is moved to the idle detent
- The EGT quickly nears or exceeds the start limit
SWA operational Philosophy
Safety, Low Cost, Reliability, Hospitality
- We are safe by complying with policies, procedures, and regulations to manage risk at an acceptable level
- We are low cost by following policies and procedures and eliminating waste
- we are reliable by being on time and delivering our customers and their bags to their planned destinations
- we deliver hospitality when employees and customers feel welcome, cared for, and appreciated
If the operation doesn’t go as planned, we will always be safe and hospitable while balancing low cost and reliability
Managing intensive tasks during taxi
The captain will manage taxi situations by controlling when and where heads down tasks are performed.
FO: if unexpected changed required significant flt deck tasks, tell the captain and then do the PWB and FMC programming and make a/c config changes as necessary
CA: stop the aircraft, have the PF brief changes, and complete the departure plan checklist if required
If visibility is less than 4000 RVR or 3/4 mile, perform any flight deck intensive tasks while stopped
When do you declare minimum fuel?
CA declares min fuel to ATC when, having committed to a specific airport it is determined any change to the existing clerance to that airport may result with a landing below the greater of:
1. planned final reserve fuel
2. 4000 lbs
When is emergency fuel declared?
MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY FUEL is declared when it is determined that:
1. the calculated usable fuel upon landing at the nearest airport where landing can be made will be less than planned final reserve fuel
2. a low fuel state requires immediate traffic priority
