Carotid Endarectomy
> 85%
Statin + antiplatelet (aspirin or clopidogril), lifestyle changes
Parapneumonic pleural effusion
pneumonia, lung abscess, bronchiectasis
Light’s criteria
Exudative: pleural pH <7.3, - 7.45, protein ratio > 0.5, LDH > 2/3
Transudative: low protein count, normal glucose. More related to capillary pressure and oncotic pressure.
Syringomyelia
Fluid develops in spinal cavity. Cape like decreased sensitivity to pain and temperature. Flaccid paralysis in upper extremities.
Brown Sequard syndrome
Hemisection of the spine
- dissociated sensory loss
- unilateral motor defecit
Tabes Dorsalis
Loss of vibration and proprioception.
Acalculous cholecystitis
Can occur after surgery
If patient unstable, pip/tazo broad spectrum antibiotics and percutaneous cholecystostomy.
Duodenal ulcer
H pylori often
Tx: Tetracycline, metronidazole, bismuth and omeprazole
Neuroblastoma
CROSSES the midline
