What is the definition of surrogacy
Surrogacy is a method of assisted reproduction where a woman carries a child on behalf of another person or couple, who are medically unable to conceive or give birth themselves.
What are the current laws governing surrogacy in Australia
The current laws regarding surrogacy in Australia state that any form of commercial surrogacy is illegal and punishable by law. Only atheistic surrogacy where the birth mother is only reimbursed for her medical expenses or any related costs is permitted to take place.
What is the punishment for commercial surrogacy
2 years imprisonment
What is commercial surrogacy?
The process of aulturistic surrogacy except one part is profiting from the agreement in the form of money.

Pros for Surrogates
- they can be provided with feelings of fulfilment
Cons for surrogates
- they have to endure 9 months of pregnancy which can be life threatening
- surrogates are sometimes required to abort babies if it does not meet the specifications of the intended parents.
Pros for intended parents
- there are requirements for someone to become a surrogate which means they won’t just have anyone ( in agencies)
- an agreement is signed by both parties to show what will be the fate of the child in case of any complications to ensure the intended parents.
Cons for intended parents
- they have to just sit back and not do anything
- the laws of Australia allow the surrogate mother to pull out of the deal and keep the child for herself.
- the surrogate mother may take terrible care of the baby.
