Sustainability/human factors/packaging Flashcards
(24 cards)
Sustainability is
Meeting the needs and demands of people without depleting resources for future generations
Renewable materials
Are materials made of plants or animals they are infinite
Non renewable materials
Are materials that are made of oil and cant be replaced, they are finite
The 6Rs of sustainability are
Reduce (less materials)
Reuse (design for recovery)
Recycle (the raw materials in the product can be reformed into a new product)
Rethink (design when using things from the environment)
Repair (design repairable products rather than ones that need replacing)
Refuse (design only with ethical standards)
Carbon footprint is
The amount of carbon produced by human activity
What are product miles
The total amounts of miles that the components have to travel to be formed and how far the product travels to be sold. It can be how far it travels also during usage
Packaging is for
Protection Information Display Transportation Preservation Containing
Planned obsolescence
Is designing a product to be thrown away after a certain period of time
Inclusive design is
Designing for a wide range of people
Exclusive / adaptive design is
Designing for a specific set of people
Human factors are
Psychological(mind)
Physiological (body)
Sociological (interaction)
Anthropometrics are
Study of human measurements designers use 90% of the populations measurements
Ergonomics are
The study of the efficiency of people in their work environment
Working triangles are
The consideration of how much movement is needed in a product:
For safety
For ease of movement
To accommodate many users
Legislation include (name 3)
TRADE DESCRIPTION ACT WEIGHTS AND MEASURES ACT CONSUMER SAFETY ACT CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT SALES OF GOOD ACT FOOD SAFETY REGULATION FOOD LABELLING REGULATION
Access in design refers to
How easy it is for consumers to get parts of a product
Safety is
The most important part of design and refers to how the product effects human factors
Designs are protected with
Trademarks (brands)
Patents (designs/inventions)
Copyright (paperwork)
Brands are communicated through
Logos
What does biodegradable mean
The natural material breaks down over time
What’s blister packaging
Inexpensive point of sale packages used in medicine tablets
What is skin packaging
Sealing a product between a layer of adhesive coated paper
What is upcycling
A method of reuse that turns the new product into one of higher value than the original
Fair trade
An extra payment on products so the workers on the production line are equally and fairly paid any extra profit goes towards charities
