- Operationalising sustainability
Effective alignment of financial strategies and sustainability goals in a recalibrated set of business metrics.
There are 4 key ways executives can organize their sustainability work for success:
- Design according to sustainability topics, not sustainability overall
- Give your central sustainability team the decision rights to execute change
- Find the structure that best fits your sustainability agenda and your organization as a whole
- Prioritize the design of precesses and governance rather that account for sustainability’s complexity and dynamic nature
- Redefining Growth
Change from linear practices to circularity models. AI models can help with this transition. Also upskilling is imperative to equip workers for future work demands.
What is Linear economy
is a system in which people
buy a product, use it, and then throw it away
What is circular economy?
A circular economy is based on three
principles: reduce, reuse, and recycle. In a circular economy, waste is minimized, natural resources are conserved and pollution is reduced.
The
first step is to eliminate the over-extraction of raw materials by using
secondary raw materials salvaged from existing products.
What are secondary raw materials?
Are products that have already been used in the
manufacturing process. These are products designed so that at the end of
their lives, they can be upgraded, repaired or go through a new
manufacturing process. They also are more durable and resilient.
What is the sharing economy?
Based on the
idea of owning less and working together when using or buying a product.
In the sharing economy, people join in groups to rent or swap products and
services, such as transport and cars.
What is reverse Logistics?
The supply chain process of
returning products from end users back through the
supply chain to either the retailer or manufacturer.
What is Upskilling?
is about building on existing skills to help employees
improve in their current roles
What is Reskilling?
Involves learning completely new
skills to transition into different roles within the organization.
This is often necessary when someone’s current job is being
phased out or significantly changed by new technologies
- activating consumers
To increase demand for sustainable fashion, brands need to share clear, honest, and easy-to-understand messages backed by proof. When done well, this can also create great business opportunities through innovation and added value.
An example of activating consumers is:
A Digital Product Passport (DPP)
What is a A Digital Product Passport (DPP)
It’s a digital system that stores key product information, including sustainability and recycling details. Each product has a unique code that lets people access this data electronically.
- Prioritising People
Moving beyond mere values-based approaches to concrete measures and metrics that deliver equity, fair compensation, well-being and dignity for all. Moreover, it requires proactive advocacy for worker representation and rights, including freedom of association (FOA)
What is Freedom of Association ?
Is one of the most basic rights
enjoyed by humans. It ensures that every individual is
free to organise and to form and participate in groups,
either formally or informally.
The right to freedom of association covers organised and
professional organisations such as political parties, trade
unions, public associations and non-governmental
- Mobilising based on materiality
Investment in action without delay is imperative for
companies to pave the way for the future supply of
materials, renewable energy and textile recycling
infrastructure to effectively reach imminent
sustainability milestones, among them reducing scope 3 GHG emissions and ensuring sourcing of
priority materials and low climate impact by 2030,
consistent with UNFCCC guidelines
