Development that meets the needs of present and future generations.

Economic, social, and environmental.
Which are the economic aspects of sustainable development?
To promote prosperity and growth.
Which are the social aspects of sustainable development?
To ensure equity and well-being for everybody.
Which are the environmental aspects of sustainable development?
The protection of ecosystems and resources.
Why are the three pillars important?
Because these aspects are interlinked, and if only ne dimension is overseen, then the result will not be positive.
Is balance important for sustainable development?
Yes, because this type of development means finding it between short-term gains long-term needs.
What is globalization?
It is the increasing integration and interdependence of national economies through trade, investment, technology and people.
How has trade changed with globalization?
Before, it was between colonial powers and their colonies; now there are global value chains with many interlinked nations.
How has speed been affected by globalization.
It used to be slow with boats, and now it is instantaneous (www).
Has the scale of commerce been affected?
Yes, at past times it was limited to major powers and now it also includes emerging economies.
What tools and technology are part of globalization?
It used to be basic transport and communication, it evolved then to be internet, automation, AI, and logistic networks.
How have power dynamics changed.
It was controlled by a few developed countries, and now it is multipolar with rising powers.
What is the development gap?
Rich countries have benefited more from globalization while poor countries struggle with lack of infrastructure, environmental degradation, and unequal trade opportunities.
What is an example of development gap?
Many people in Africa still lack access to electricity, while wealthier
countries consume disproportionate resources.
What are some global challenges?
Climate change, resource depletion, inequality, unstable growth, and lack of access to healthcare, education and employment.
What could be some policy recommendations?
En outage transfer of technology to developing countries, foster fair trade and inclusive growth, and develop global partnerships to achieve goals.
What is intergenerational equity?
Fairness between present and future generations. A cornerstone of sustainability.
What are scenarios?
Possible future outcomes based on choices made today.
What is an example of a scenario?
Emission policies and energy use.
Which are some tools for future planning?
Climate and economic models, scenario building, and education and awareness.
How could we use climate and economic models?
To predict resource use, emissions, and future templates.
Is there an urgency to act?
We can’t wait for perfect solutions, delaying action increases costs and risks. We must act with available tools.
What is the relation between education and sustainability?
Teaching young people about sustainability is key to lasting change, thus, countries are incorporating education into their curricula.
