What is Demography?
· “Demos”, which means “population”, and “-graphy”, which means “describe”.
· Science that researches and describes a population.
Demography researches:
1. size
2. composition
3. structure
4. Distribution of human populations
What are the most important data for demography?
Births, deaths, migrations.
What is poverty?
The state of one who lacks a usual or socially accepted amount of money or material possessions.
Does poverty exist in higher income countries?
Yes,
Does poverty exist in low income countries?
Yes,
What is objective perspective?
Information that can be measured and its “established” or a fact.
What is subjective perspective?
information that can’t be measured
What is a basic need?
it describes basic needs we naturally mention the fundamental resources and support people need to survive, this are physical needs, such as food, shelter and clothing. But we can consider as well social and psychological such as education health care and social participation.
Who was maslow?
An-America psychologist known as one of the founders and main exponents of humanistic psychology.
Humanistic psychology?
A psycological movement that postulates the existence of a basic human tendency towards mental health.
Physiological needs
Air, water, food, shelter, sleep, clothing, reproduction.
Safety needs
Personal security, employment, resources, health, property.
Love and belonging
Friendship, intimacy, family, sense of connection.
Esteem
Respect, self-esteem, status, recognition, strength, freedom.
Self-actualization
Desire to become the most that one can be.
