Q

give 4 points that justify why you chose to do this investigation in swanage?

16
Q

what was your qualifying question?

A

do you live in Purbeck?

17
Q

what open questions did you ask?

A

-what change had they seen
-what obstacles there were to climate change mitigation

18
Q

where and when did your questionare take place?

A

30th of september 2022 in swanage, Purbeck

19
Q

what was your sampling method and your sample size?

A

-random
-323 out of the 9702 population

20
Q

why did you use closed questions?

A

-record data in charts
-compare with others
-spot patterns

21
Q

explain why you chose to do random sampling and have a 323 person sample size

A

-random sampling allowed us to collect a wide range of different people’s opinions
-the sample size was realistic for the number of students

22
Q

what were the constriants to your investigation?

A

didnt have a lot of time or students so couldnt talk to everyone

23
Q

what were 5 common answers to question 6 - describe positive change you have seen in your area

A

-more solar panels
-electric car charge points
-electric buses
-not seen anything
-wind farms

24
Q

did you prove or disprove your hypothesis - the community of Purbeck are activley suppourting the use of renewable energy?

A

partially proven but mostly disproven

18% have solar panels, 13% own an EV or hybrid

25
what was our source of secondary data and what did we find?
-satilite photos where we looked for solar panels -overall, 10.3% of buildings had solar panels
26
How many questionarre respondents where there?
323
27
How old was the largest group interviewed?
50-65
28
How many people knew about the ban on petrol and diesel cars after 2030
46% of people
29
How many people don't have an EV charge point
80%
30
How many people use an EV/hybrid vehicle
21% or fewer
31
How many people are supportive of solar farms and offshore wind
60%
32
What percentage of properties had solar panels (satellite images)?
10%
33
How many people thought that Dorset was making significant change?
25%
34
Give 3 reasons why people were less supportive of onshore wind power
-AONB -noisy -impact on tourism
35
Was there any data missing that could have helped?
-responses from local businesses -info on planned future renewable energy developments
36
Describe the method used for your human inquiry
-questionarre that investigated the suppourt that locals had for climate change mitigation and what was being done -mainly closed questions and a qualifying question
37
Why key theories and concepts underpin our investigation?
-NIMBYISM = people naturally reject change in their area -AONB -helps us understand why there are no on or offshore wind farms and not many solar farms -Climate Change Act 2008 and the ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars after 2035 helps us understand why people are switching to EVs
38
What were the weaknesses of our human investigation?
-only asked 4 people under 18 -58% women 42% men -human error when analysing secondary data
39
Evaluate the validity of our human enquiry
-used both primary and secondary data -could've mistaken solar panels -closed questions = quantitative data -323 sample size - big for a school however only 3% of swathe population -did investigation during week = no children -didn't ask businesses
