Systems #1 Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is a system
A system is a group of parts working together to perform a specific function.
Where can you find systems
They operate everywhere and come in many different forms. A lot of people rely on these systems to keep society educated, efficient, and safe.
What are the actions taken by a system called
The process
What are the two types of systems
Physical, social
What are physical systems
Physical systems are any system relying on physical parts to perform a task. They can either be made by humans or they can be found in nature.
Examples of human made physical systems:
Mechanical, electrical, transportation
Examples of natural physical systems
The solar system
Water cycle
Human body systems
What is a social system
A social system is a group of organisms that join together to accomplish a task.
Examples of social systems in nature:
Bird flocks, fish schools, ant colonies
Human made social systems:
education systems (school), social workers, healthcare, law enforcement, families.
How are physical and social systems different?
Physical systems are made of all non-living materials that work together to perform a task. Social systems are made of people and their interactions, relying on relationships, and shared responsibilities to function.
How are physical and social systems similar?
Both consist of parts that must work together to achieve a task, such as how a factory relies on both machines (a physical system) and workers (a social system). Both types of systems can be improved over time through innovation.
What is an input?
the things that are put into the system, like forces, energy, or raw materials.
What is an output
the things or services that the system produces.
