Systems In Environmental Science 3.2 Flashcards
(12 cards)
Feedback Loop
When outputs in a system are routed back as inputs creating a loop or circuit
Erosion
The removal of soil by H20, wind, ice or gravity
Geosphere
Rocks and everything below the surface
Lithosphere
The hard rock on and just below the earth’s surface
Biosphere
All living and non living parts of the environment and with which they interact
(The sum of all the ecosystems)
Atmosphere
Layers of gases surrounding our planet
Hydrosphere
All the water on and below Earth’s surface and in the atmosphere
System
A network of parts, elements, or components that interact with and influence one another
How are Earth’s spheres defined
Their makeup and location
Positive feedback loop
Outputs amplifies the input: destabilizing
Negative Feedback Loops
Increase in input leads to decrease in output
