A
- Increase insulin secretion from B cells (phase 1 spike)
- Act by INHIBITING K(ATP) channels
- Orally absorbed
- Excreted via kidney
- Adverse effects: hypoglycaemia, weight gain

What do biguanides do?
A
- Increase insulin mediated peripheral glucose uptake
- decrease hepatic glucose production
- cause small decrease in LDL level and TAGs
- acting by ACTIVATING AMP kinase
- adverse effects: GI disturbances, no weight gain. Contraindicated in pts with impaired renal function
