(What is Universal Credit Bi-weekly payment)

In November 2021 singles under the age of 25 received £265.31

In March 2020 264,000 people claimed Universal credit in Scotland by August 2020 this had increased to 474,000

BAL

However as October 2021 Universal Credit is being reduced by £20 a week as this was a temporary increase due to covid.

Living Wage

A

Before-tax the people getting paid living wage would have an extra £1,074 a year.

In April 2022 the living wage will increase to 9.50 for those over 23.

However age inequality still exists - it doesn’t help those under 23
who are often trying to save for their first house and trying to pay off student loans.

Education Maintenance Allowance

A

EMA is a payment given to young people aged 16-19 years old in low-income households to encourage them to stay in school. It is worth £30 a week.

It is paid in weekly or bi-weekly payments.

BAL
However, The National Foundation for Education Research says that 90% of students who receive EMA would still continue school without the payment.

Winter Fuel Payment

A

Winter fuel payment is a payment given to pensioners every winter to help prevent fuel poverty. The amount a pensioner recieves depends on their age and living circumstances, for exsample a pensioner living alone who is older than 82 would be entitled to £300 as a payment for November and December

It has been reported that pensioners skip meals and social events in order to heat their homes.

Winter fuel payment prices have been frozen since 2011 despite an increase in heating costs.
