Targeting Microtubules Flashcards
(10 cards)
Function of Vinca alkaloid
From periwinkle leaves that binds tubulin and prevent microtubule assembly.
Type and vinca alkaloid and their toxicity
Vincristine(neurotoxic on axonal transport) and Vinblastine (myelosuppression affects bone marrow)
Taxanes
From pacific yew tree which promote microtubule assembly and inhibit disassembly
Abraxane
Taxane that is in form of paclitaxel in albumin-coated nanoparticles.
Eoposide
Anti-tumor antibiotics which inhibit topoisomerase I and II so that DNA is broken down, but not re-constructed.
Doxorubicin
Anthracycline which inhibits topoisomerase II and intercalate DNA to block DNA and RNA synthesis
Problem of Doxorubicin
Alters cell membrane fluidity and ion transport, Free radical generation, and bone marrow and cardiac toxicity.
Bleomycin
Cause DNA single and bouble strand breaks, and forms free radicals to inhibit DNA synthesis. Accumulate in G2.
Family of drugs that targes microtublues
Vinca alkaloids and Txanes
Family of drugs are anti-tumor antibiotics
Topoisomerase inhibitor(etoposide), Anthracycline, and Bleomycin
