Purchasing: PHYSICAL ACT of buying goods and services for ALL departments of the business.
Procurement: ENTIRE PROCESS OF SELECTING SUPPLIERS, and DETERMINING TERMS AND CONDITIONS of CONTRACTS
What are the FIVE criteria that the purchasing and procurement manager must assess to select a potential supplier?
- Price (must be a reasonable price)
- Capacity (warehouse must have enough space for storage of goods)
- Reputation (must be ETHICAL and reliable. Brand image reflects reputation
- Support (must have measures in place to ensure safety eg: CCTV cameras)
- Labour ( all labour must be ethical and work towards shared goal)
