Signs and Symptoms / Assessment

A
  • Watery eye can become sticky
    Can lead to Mucocoele formation = round swelling below inner canthus at medial end of lower lid.
  • redness of eye
  • crusting of eye lids
  • mucus/pus discharge
  • GENTLE pressure - if pus comes out on to lid = confirmed diagnosis

Treatment

A
  • Good eye hygiene. dont rub keep clean etc.
  • Treatment depends on cause mostly self limiting

(unconfirmed - pack says):
Tear sac is massaged for 15 seconds to express its contents first, then topical antibiotics are instilled into the eye and the tear sac massaged again to ensure that the antibiotic reaches.

Antibiotic =
obstruction without Mucocoele = Zinc sulphate drops QDS.

Infection gone less can use zinc sulfate and phenylephrine.
<1 general anaesthesia
