What is the focus?
A
The point underground where the plates slip. Seismic waves radiate outwards from this point.

The point on the surface directly above the focus. Shocking should be strongest here.

A
Energy waves that radiate outwards from the focus and cause the ground to shake.

A
Assesses the amount of energy released by the earthquake and the intensity of the shaking.
