Tectonic Plates / Earthquakes Flashcards

(7 cards)

1

Q

Describe constructive plates

A

Construction margins move away from each other. Magma or molten rock automatically fills any possible gaps. The Atlantic Ocean is widening about 3 cm each year, which means the Americas are moving away from Eurasia and Africa.

Q

Describe conservative plates

A

Constructive margins are found where two plates slide past one another.
However, earthquakes can happen if the two plates stick. The Sun Andreas fault marked the junction of the specific in North American plates.
