Tell me how you’d check that the brakes are working before starting a journey?
Use the brake pedal to test them as you set off, they should not feel spongy or slacky

Use a reliable pressure gauge to check and adjust, when the tyres are cold. Remember a spare tyre and to refit the valve caps after adjusting pressure.
Tell me how you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash?
Rigid (bump) part of the restarting should be at least as high as the eyes or ear tops and as close as possible to head.
Tell me how you’d check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general conditions is safe to use on the road?
Make sure that they have no cuts or bulges. They must have 1.6 mm of tread depth around central three quarters of the tyre breadth, as well as around entire circumference.

Operate the switch (left knob in Stuart’s car), before walking around the car and checking

Operate switch (second dial on left stick, orange symbol comes up). Use when your visibility is reduced to less than 100 metres, shows other drivers where you are.

Steering may feel heavy
Check by applying pressure before moving (should be some movement) or turn the wheel after moving off
Tell me how you switch on your headlight from dipped to main beam and explain how you’d know the main beam is on?
Operate switch (push left stick away from you) and check the full beam warning light
Tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient oil?
Wait for engine to cool. Take out dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth. Put dipstick back in and out, before comparing with minimum and maximum oil levels.
Tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient engine coolant?
Look at coolant reservoir (directly under front of bonnet) and read minimum and maximum levels. Can add through either of the valves, once the engine has cooled.
Tell me how you’d check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid?
Identify reservoir (underside of bonnet roof) and compare against high and low level marking. Can add through valve.
