Tell Me Questions Flashcards
(14 cards)
How do you check the brakes are working before starting journey
Brakes shouldn’t feel spongy or slack
Test them as you set off - vehicle should not pull to one side
How do you find the information for the recommended tyre pressure, and how tyre pressure should be checked
Manufactures guide
Use a reliable pressure gauge, check and adjust pressure when tyres are cold
Carry a spare tyre, refit the valve cap
How do you make sure the head restraint is correctly adjusted to provide the best protection
Should be adjusted so that the rigid part of the restraint is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears AND as close to the back of the head as is comfortable
(Some restraints may not be adjustable)
How do you check the tyres to ensure they have sufficient tread depth and their general condition is safe to use on the road
No cuts and bulges
1.6mm tread depth across the central three-quarters of the breadth of the tyre, and around the entire outer circumference of the tyre
How do you check that the headlights and tail lights are working
Operate the switch (turning on ignition if necessary) then walk round vehicle
(Don’t need to physically walk round in test)
How do you know if there is a problem with your anti-locking brake system
Warning light should illuminate if there is a fault with the anti-locking brake system
(Yellow ABS light)
How do you check the direction indicators are working
Operate the switch (turning on ignition of necessary) then walk round vehicle to check
(Don’t need to physically walk round in test)
How would you check that the brake lights are working
Operate the brake pedals and make use of reflections in windows/doors, or ask someone to help
How would you check the power-assisted steering is working before starting a journey
If the steering becomes heavy, the system may not be working properly. 2 simple check can be made before stating journey:
1) Gentle pressure in the steering wheel, maintained whilst the engine is started, shook result in a slight but noticeable movement as the system begins operate
2) Alternatively, turning the steering wheel just after moving off will give an immediate indication that the power assistance is functioning
How would you switch the rear fog lights on, and explain how you would use them
Operate switch (turn on dipped headlights and ignition if necessary) Check warning light is on
Explain use…
How do you switch headlights from dipped to main beam, and explain how you would know main beam is on
Operate switch, with ignition on if necessary, check with main beam warning light
Open the Bonet and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil
Identify dipstick/oil level indicator, describe check of oil level against minimum and maximum markers
Open the bonnet and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient engine coolant
Identify high and low level markings on header tank where fitted, or radiator filling caps nd describe how to top up to correct level
Open bonnet and explain how you wold check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid
Identify reservoir, check levé against high and low markings
