Q

Describe the Pathogenesis

A

Similar lesions to Ostertagia ostertagi, but LESS SEVERE clinical signs

Source of infection varies with conditions during the adverse period for larval survival

In very dry hot summer longevity of L3 reduced and mat acts as reservoir

Sheep feces less protection for L3

Changes occur in parasitized glands: Distend

 - Spread to non-parasitized glands
 - End result: Thickened Hyperplastic Gastric Mucosa

Raised nodule with visible central orifices

Very edematous

Necrosis and sloughing

Substantial leakage of endogenous protein
