A
1866-1871 5 fenian raids in Canada by militias who supported Fenian brotherhood. Us took action, arrested ring leaders. Canada worries about US interference and pushed Canadian provinces to join confederation

A
Red river colony was ripe for settlement so US could annex it. Tensions settled after Alabama claims settled.

A
1867 Seward acquires Alaska, opened way for further expansion. British Columbia was all that separated the US. Canadian gov brided with the use of building a railway to rest of Canada.
