Term 1 exam study cards Flashcards
(45 cards)
ENdothermic
the animal makes its own heat
Ectothermic
Animal obsorbs heat from it surroundings
What does the CNS have in it?
The brain and spinal cord
what does the pns have in it?
the nerves that branch out from the brain and spinal cord, forming the communication network between the Central Nervous System (CNS) and the rest of the body, and is further divided into the somatic and autonomic nervous systems.
Stomatic?
Controls voluntary muscle movements and receives sensory information from the body.
Autonomic Nervous System:
Function: Regulates involuntary bodily functions like heart rate, breathing, digestion, and blood pressure.
Environment
the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates.
Ecosystem
all the biotic and abiotic factors and all abotic and abiotic things in an environment
Habbitat
where 1 species lives
Be able to recognise the interdependence of living things in an ecosystem and the biosphere
this is when 2 specices relaytionship whwre each existion afffect the others survival
3 examples of biotic factors
Competition, predation, parasitisum
3 examples of abiotic factors
fire, water , soil types
Explain hiw abiotc and bitoc factos affect an orgaisums survival
abiotic: water is a solvent if all cells
biotic: predations keeps the food chain running
- Be able to classify an adaptation as structural, behavioural or functional
Structural- build extra part
Behaural – habbits changing to help them survive
Functional – they way the body works, doesn’t require continuous thoughts
Brain stem use?
Vital functions
Cerebellum use?
coordination and balance
Types of receptors
Mechanoreceptors, Photoreceptors, Thermoreceptors
Chemoreceptors
Cerebrum use?
concious thoughts, volontary movements
Natural impacts on ecosystems?
droughts, floods
human impacts on ecosystems
intoduced speices, overcropping, chemical pesticides
Part of nerons that recive the impulse?
dendrites
Chemical between neurons?
Neurotransmitters
2 types of neurons?
Motor, sensory
What do motor neurons do?
They carry the messages from the brain to the muscles
