Cells and Tissues (Functions) (51 cards)
What is the organisation of the body?
Cells, tissues, organs, organ systems.
Examples of cells;
Heart, Brain, Nerve.
What are the four types of tissues?
Epithelial, muscular, connective, nervous.
What are the four organ systems?
Nervous, Endocrine, Muscular-skeletal, Reproductive.
What is the function of the Golgi body (apparatus)?
To package, modify and store proteins.
What is the function of the nuclear membrane?
Allows Mona to move out of the nucleus.
What is the function of the nucleus?
Controlling DNA production.
What is the function of the Mitochondria?
Cellular respiration.
What is the function of the vesicle?
Containing and transporting substances that are secreted.
What is the function of the cell membrane?
Controls what moves in and out of the cell.
What is cytoplasm?
Fluid that holds cell organelles.
What is the function of the nucleolus?
Produces vesicles.
What is the function of the centrioles?
Sending out spindle fibres during cell reproduction.
What is the function of the rough ER?
Moves proteins (packages of substances) around the cell.
What is the phospholipid bilayer?
A double membrane consisting of a hydrophilic phosphate head, and hydrophobic fatty acid tails
Define semi-permeable.
Allowing certain substances to pass through but not others.
What is the basic unit of life?
Cell
True or False: All living organisms are composed of cells.
True
What structure controls the movement of substances in and out of a cell?

Mitochondria
Which type of cell lacks a nucleus?
Prokaryotic cell
What is the function of ribosomes?
Protein synthesis
True or False: Eukaryotic cells are generally larger and more complex than prokaryotic cells.
