State
The form that a substance is in; solid, liquid or gas.
Particles
Tiny pieces that make up everything around us.

Vacuum
A space with no air or matter inside.

A state of matter that has a fixed shape and volume.
Liquid
A state of matter that flows and takes the shape of its container.

A combination of two or more substances that can be separated.

A substance that does not dissolve in a liquid.

When a substance mixes completely with a liquid and forms a solution
Saturated solution
A solution that cannot dissolve any more of a substance.
Pollution
Harmful substances that dirty the air, water or land.
Sewage
Dirty water and waste that comes from homes and buildings.
Wetlands
Areas of land that are often covered with water, like swamps or marshes.
Swampy
Wet, muddy and soft land, often found near water.
Pure
Something that is clean and not mixed with anything else.
Variety
A large number of different things or choices of something.
Homogeneous mixtures
Where the two substances that are mixed looks the same and you can’t see the different parts, eg sugar that dissolves in water.
Heterogeneous mixtures
Where the two substances that are mixed stays separate and you can see the different parts, eg a bowl full of nuts and raisins.
Temperature
How hot or cold something is.
Grain-size
How large or small the particles of a substance are.
