Active Suicidal Ideation
When a person thinks about wanting to die or wishes he or she were dead, but has no plan to cause his or her death
Passive Suicidal Ideation
Eating disorder characterized by voluntary refusal to eat
Anorexia
Characterized by recurrent episodes of eating volumes of food
Bulimia
The consumption of more calories than needed for metabolic needs
Obesity
The morbid fear of obesity, characterized by a refusal to maintain a minimally normal body weight
Anorexia Nervosa
Episodic, uncontrolled, compulsive, rapid ingestion of large quantities of food followed by a short period of time
Bulimia Nervosa
The use of chemicals or materials for non-medical purposes with the intention of producing an altered state of consciousness, sensorium, heightened sensory perception, and altered self-image
Substance Abuse
Defined as using drugs in a way that is inconsistent with medical or social norms and despite negative consequences
Drug Abuse
Includes problems associated with addiction such as tolerance, withdrawal, and unsuccessful attempts to stop using the substance
Substance Dependence
Is marked by a need for increasing amounts of the drug to produce the desired effects
Physical Dependence
Occurs when the client feels that the substance is needed to maintain an optimal state of well-being, interpersonal relationships, or skill performance
Physiological Dependence
Means consuming a large amount of food
Binge Eating
Compensatory behavior designed to eliminate food by means of self-induced vomiting or misuse of laxatives
Purging
It is a mental health condition that can develop after someone experiences or witnesses a traumatic event such as war, natural disasters, accidents, violence, or abuse
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Represent patterns of thinking, perceiving, reacting, and relating that are relatively stable over time
Personality Traits
Exist when these traits become so pronounced, rigid, and maladaptive that they impair work and/or interpersonal functioning. These social maladaptations can cause significant distress in people with personality disorders and in those around them
Personality Disorders
People with this disorder are not stable in their perceptions of themselves
Borderline Personality Disorder
Have a deep-seated belief that they are unworthy or inferior and that others believe this too. This causes an overwhelming fear of being negatively evaluated by others, even though they might long for connection
Avoidant Personality Disorder
Feel helpless and have an excessive fear of separation or being left alone. This causes them to depend on other people to take care of them
Dependent Personality Disorder
Characterized by a pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of emotional expression in interpersonal settings
Schizoid Personality Disorder
Characterized by a pervasive pattern of social and interpersonal deficits marked by acute discomfort with and reduced capacity for close relationships, as well as by cognitive or perceptual distortions and behavioral eccentricities
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
