Terminology Flashcards
(18 cards)
Aim
Is a goal you are setting to achieve
Method
Is how you plan to collect data. WHAT. WHERE. HOW. WHY.
Data Presentation
How you present data - Photos, Tables, Sketches; (Pie charts, Bar charts)
Data Analysis
Describing and explaining the findings - (Reasons why for specific data)
Conclusion
Summary of findings. Accept or reject hypothesis.
Evaluation
Was your method good or bad and why
What is meant by accurate?
Accurate results are as near as possible to the true answer-they have few errors
What is meant by reliable?
Reliable results can be reproduced
What is meant by valid?
Valid means that the data answers the original question and is reliable
What is meant by hypothesis
A hypothesis is a statement that will be tested through the fieldwork investigation. It should be linked to geography theory.
What is meant by the term Sampling Strategy?
How you choose where and when to collect data
What is meant by the term sample size?
How many times/places you measure something
Generally, what does bigger the same mean?
Bigger the sample = better the results
What is meant by the term risk assessment?
Assessing the risk of potential risks and hazards
Name the three types of data sampling:
Random
Systematic
Stratified
Generally, what does a small, single time and single place sampling technique result in?
Unreliable results
What does a ‘good method’ involve?
-Data collected RELEVANT to the aim
-Gathers enough data for VALID CONCLUSIONS to be reached (sampling is considered)
-COLLECTION of DATA that can be presented in a way which enables SIMPLE ANALYSIS
-LINKS to other METHODS to ACCESS the overall AIM
