Define Psychology
The study of peoples feeling, thoughts and personal development, trying to identify triggers or behaviours.
What are the 4 branches of anthropology?
Physical, cultural, archaeological, linguistic
Define Sociology
Looks at the structure of human society and how it works, and how people act in groups.
Define anthropology
Examines the development of the human species and human cultures.
What is social science?
Social science is a disciplined understanding of human behaviour.
What is psychoanalytic theory?
The mind is divided into two parts, the conscious and unconscious mind. And the unconscious mind is often holding repressed emotions form childhood.
What is learning theory?
Humans are born with little instinct, but much learning potential. Most human behaviour is learned, especially in youth.
What is Behaviourism?

the theory that human and animal behavior can be explained in terms of conditioning, without appeal to thoughts or feelings, and that psychological disorders are best treated by altering behavior patterns
What are rules?
Developed by societies based on their system of values.
What are values?
Society carries with it a system of values that define what is important to the society.
What are norms?
Rules set out for a particular role that are considered standard behaviour
What is structural functionalism?
Society should provide its members with the fundamental requirements for functioning. Focus on keeping society stable.
What is Marxism?
Economic power leads to political power, economic struggle causes society to be ever changing.
WhAt is feminist theory?
Focuses on on sex and gender issues, believe women have disadvantages and men have advantages. Believe men have made most of the decisions, and favours women’s equality.
What is inclusionism?
Most Sociological research has been developed from a Western European male perspective. Strives to include all people in the perspective research and so on.
What is cognitive dissonance?
This is when what you do conflicts with what you think. In your desire to regain cognitive consistency you will try to avoid conflict.
What is conformity?
Behaviour that accepts the values of society, adoption of ways of thinking and acting in a society.
What is alienation?
A feeling that one does not share in the major values and goals of a society; feeling like an alien.
