Primitivism
An incorporation/ obsession with a minority group’s culture.
i.e. African Americans during the Harlem Renaissance
The Talented Tenth
An elite group of African Americans that consist of the “cultured” types, with background in modern medicine, the arts, etc.; and that they are bestowed the responsibility of inspiring fellow minorities.
The American Dream
The possibility of upward mobility despite social class. In literature it is used as a tool to speak to the masses/ often also emphasizes it hollowness through critical analysis.
Theater of the Absurd
Satirizes issues, so that the truth doesn’t seem so dim, when indeed it is morbid
Scapegoating
- Fear of the Other
- Identifying the Other, creates the One.
- Targeting a specific group implies that minority having power.
The Beat Generation
A generation who has been exhausted, defeated, BEAT.
