Terms Flashcards
(19 cards)
Light focuses at multiple points on retina.
Cornea and/or lens have different surface curvature in one direction from other. Results in ray of light spread over diffuse area, rather than a focused point.
Astigmatism
Intolerance to light.
Photphobia
Unequal pupils.
Anisocoria
Inversion of eyelashes such that they grow back towards the eye causing irritation.
Trichiasis
Constriction of the pupil
Miosis
Dilation of the Pupil
Mydriasis
Normal condition of eye in which light rays entering eye are focused on retinta.
Emmetropia
Light focused in front of retina. Nearsightedness.
Myopia
Light focused behind retina. Farsightedness.
Hyperopia
Gradual loss of ability lens ability to accommodate. Can’t see things near to eye.
Presbyopia
Difference in each eye in terms of myopia/hyperopia/emmetropia
Anisometropia
Broad term encompassing myopia, hyperopia and emmetropia.
Ametropia
Dilation of the Pupil
Mydriasis
White/gray/blue opaque ring in corneal margin or white ring in front of periphery of iris. Prsent at birth but usually fades. Can 2/2 hypercholesterolemia.
Arcus senilis
Blood in anterior chamber of eye. Usually 2/2 trauma.
Hyphema
Leukocytic exudates in the anterior chamber, accompanied by conductive erythema. Sign of inflammation of urea and iris.
Hypopyon
Degenerative disorder of eye in which structural changes of cornea result in it thinning and changing to conical shape.
Keratoconus
Benign growth of conjunctiva.
Fleshy, triangular encroachment on conjunctiva onto nasal side of cornea.
Pterygium (Surfer’s eye)
Growth of conjunctiva. Yellow, elevated conjunctival nodule in area of palpebral fissure.
Pinguecula
