What is ADPIED?
The systematic approach to care used by dental hygienists that involves 6 key behaviours or steps

Individualized assessment in every client

Using critical analysis of all assessment findings to identify existing or potential needs and oral health problems
ADPIED- planning
Developing goals for behavioural outcomes, oral health and overall health are addressed

Throughout the process of care, the DH needs to take into account: persons level of growth and maturity, age, gender, lifestyle, culture, health beliefs, level of knowledge

What is a metaparadigm?
The dental hygiene metaparadigm consists of four key concepts that provide a framework for understanding the practice of dental hygiene. These four concepts work together to:
-shape the practice of dental hygiene
-guiding professionals in providing comprehensive care
-promoting optimal oral health for individuals and communities
A widely accepted view of the discipline that includes paradigm concepts defined by the disciple as its unique perspective.

- client self care commitment model
The human needs model (1st DH conceptual model)
In order for a person to be healthy and happy they must meet 8 human needs (protection from health risks, freedom from fear and stress, freedom from pain, wholesome facial image, skin and mucous membranes interfaith of the head and neck, biologically sound and functioning dentition, conceptualization and problem solving, responsibility for oral health)
Oral health related quality (2nd DH conceptual model)
Focuses on how the client define its own satisfactory level of oral health, comfort and function
Client self care commitment model (3rd DH conceptual model)
Based on premise that effectively involving clients as co-therapists in their oral health descisions enhances motivation, commitment, and compliance with oral self care
9 reasons that a dental hygienist should keep detailed records:
-provides an organized record of all treatment procedures performed
-includes the clients oral and health goals related to beliefs, attitudes and habits
-provides a correlation of DH care with all other components of the comprehensive care plan
-aids in evaluating DH and dental diagnoses
-serves as a communication tool between all team members and the patient
-guides consistent individualized preventative care
-provides documentation of necessary needs to third party ensurers
-demonstrates accountability for responsible quality care
-provides legal protection
