Outline Peterson and Peterson’s 1959 study methodology

A
  • They showed participants a trigram (3 letter nonsense word)
  • Participants had to recall the trigram after counting backwards in 3s from 300. The length of time they had to count for varied from 3 seconds to 18 seconds to see how long it was until participants forgot the word
