22
Q

What is the main difference between a rocket and a missile?

A

Rockets are unguided

23
Q

What is the definition of the word Armed in regards to fuzes?

A

When all safety features in the fuze have been eliminated or not functioning. But the fuze has not had the required forces to commence fuze firing sequence

24
Q

What is the purpose of a relay in a fuse?

A

Often used to pick up weak explosive stimulate, augment it and amplify it into the next component. often lead azide and used in conjunction with primers

25
What does the following stand for 1. HERA 2. APCBC 3. APFSDS
1. High explosive rocket assist 2. Armour Piercing cap ballistic cap 3. Armour piercing fin stabilized discarding sabot
26
how does a APDS work
the pettles are design to catch the expanding gas and propel the sabot down the barrel. once exiting the barrel the pettles will peel away. thus leaving a sabot to travel at high velocity. another one the pot will slide of the back of a sabot
27
What are some key id features of a PTTF fuze
1. all have an arming pin hole 2. maybe multi piece construction 3. gas vent holes 4. may have at least one brass ring 5. may have time calibration scale
28
What is a cocked sticker.
after firing the firing pin is held under spring tension and fires by releasing said tension
29
define acceleration/setback in relation to fuze arming
upon firing the fuzing is components are forced rear wards arming the EO
30
define deceleration/creep in relation to arming
upon deceleration the firing mechanism is forced forwards over coming a creep spring or similar
31
name the principle components of a bomb
1. fuze 2. body/case 3. fill 4. tail unit 5. suspension lugs
32
what are the four categories of bombs/
1. HE 2. incendiary 3. chemical 4. practice
33
name the 4 types of long delay fuzing?
1. chemical 2. material creep 3. mechanical time 4 electrical
34
Define impact inertia in relation to fuze firing
forward movement of the internal components after impact of the target causing an action of a firing pin or firing pin into a detonator.
35
give 2 classifications of impact fuzes
point detonating and base detonating
36
Name the 3 main times of timed fuzes
1. mechanical 2. electrical 3. PTTF
37
design characteristics of MT/MTSQ fuze.
multi peice construction may have time calibration scale setting lugs or slots may have sq/ delay
38
What are the two main hazards of UXO and what is the worst
fuze hazard | EO hazard
39
Tail units will fall into two main categories what are they?
retarding (high drag) | non - retarding (low drag)
40
what are the three main types of bomb fills?
1. HE 2. Chemical 3. Incendiary
41
what is a denort rod and a stabo
denort rod = creates stand off | stabo = to prevent bomb skip
42
What are the 4 methods of bomb arming?
1. electrical 2. mechanical 3. electo-mechanical 4. combination
43
what are the 4 main components of a missile
1. warhead 2. guidance 3. propulsion 4. control
