Eastern grip
Handshake grip
What is the beginner’s goal in Pickleball?
To develop consistent control of the paddle on the ball.
Western grip
Topspin on a forehand drive.
Continental grip
Midway between eastern forehand and backhand.
Ready position
Feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent, weight on balls of feet, back straight and inclined forward, head up, eyes on opponent, with paddle in front of the body at waist level and pointed at the opponent.

When ball is 4-5 ft. away, take two shuffles to get it.
A forehand drive is similar to what?
Batting a baseball.

Underhand with paddle below the waist.
What grip is used to serve?
Forehand grip

Drive serve does what?
Keeps the opponent at the baseline and on the defense.
Lob serve does what?
Changes pace and keeps the receiver at the baseline and on the defense.
What is the goal of a volley?
To stop the progress of the ball.
Rule of volleying in relation to the non-volley zone
Basic volley position is 1ft. behind the non-volley zone
Ready position for a volley
Same as for ground strokes, only the paddle is eye level.
Where do you make contact for a defensive volley?
Below net height
Where do you make contact for an offensive volley?
Above net height.
Offensive lob shot does what?
Forces the net player back to the baseline to their disadvantage.
What does a defensive lob shot do?
Provides time for the player that is out of position to recover and get back into position on the court.
What is a half-volley?
A defensive shot when the ball is hit immediately after the bounce.
When is a half-volley used?
When the ball is hit at your feet in the back court, or when approaching the net with no time to volley in return.
Pickleball etiquette
Dress according to facility rules
Be on time
Do not distract other players by walking on their court in play
Know your opponent
