Test 4 Flashcards
(26 cards)
What does the circulation/filtration system do?
Provides uniform chemical components, temps, and agitation of the chemistry.
Constant circulation of chemistry thru the tanks.
Constant filtering/straining of the developer
What does the dryer do?
Dries the film.
Handling and storage of film.
Prevents stored films from sticking together.
What does the power/electrical system do?
Provides automation to the processor
What does the temperature control system consist of?
Thermostat
Thermometer
Developer heater/heating elements (coils)
Heat exchanger (usually found in wash tank)
What does the transport system consist of?
Rollers
Rack assemblies
Motors
Gears
What is the function of the transport system?
Provides mechanical movement of the film through the processor at a controlled/timed rate
Controls processing time
What does the replenishment system consist of?
External storage tanks for developer and fixer
Pump
Flow meter
Electromagnetic switch (connected to transport system)
What is the function of the replenishment system?
Sustain the necessary chemical volume and activity of the developer and fixer
What does the chemistry system consist of?
Developer
Fixer
Washer
What does the fast acting reducing agent do?
Establishes gray and white shades of the visible /manifest image, and is responsible for the toe and D-min of the H & D curve
What does the slow acting reducing agent do?
Establishes black tones of the visible/manifest image, and is responsible for the shoulder and D-max of the H & D curve
What does the restrainer do?
Provides a bromide barrier, acts as an anti fog agent and prevents reduction of unexposed silver bromide crystals
What does the pre hardener do?
Shrinks and hardens the emulsion and prevents films from getting stuck in the processor
What does the activator do?
Swells the film emulsion.
*component of the developer
What do the reducing agents do?
Reduce the exposed silver bromide crystals to blank metallic silver and changes the latent image to a visible or manifest image
*component of the developer
What does the hardener do?
Shrinks and hardens the films gelatin/emulsion and makes the image permanent for storage quality
*component of the fixer
What does the clearing or fixing agent do?
Responsible for clearing away the unexposed and undeveloped silver bromide crystals from the films emulsion
What does the acidifier do?
Maintain acid medium of the fixer and neutralizes/stops developer action, stopping further film development
*component of the fixer
What types of malfunctions would cause a decrease in density, speed, and contrast as the film exits the processor?
Circulation system
Replenishment system
Temperature control system
Chemistry system
What are the cause and effects of over development of the film?
Causes: increase in T/T/A, or Due to malfunctions in transport/temperature control and/or circulation/replenishment systems
Effects: increase in film density, speed and chemical fog. Decrease in film contrast
What are the effects of insufficient fixing of the film?
Leaves the film sticky or wet, milky residue from developer remains in films emulsion, emulsion turns yellow or brown
What are the effects of inadequate washing of the film?
Hyporetention/retention of the fixer, too much fixer retained in the film emulsion after development
What are the cause and effects of inadequate circulation/agitation/filtration of chemistry?
Causes: circulation pump fails, blocked circulation lines or kink in tubes, clogged developer filters.
Effects: depletes developer chemistry, uneven developer temperature and development of the film.
What are the effects of malfunctions of heating system components?
Increased or decreased developer temperature (norm is 94-96F), and density. Chemical fog, cracked or reticulated film emulsion, wet films
