What is ORM
Operation Risk Management, Decision making tool to make informed decisions and minimize risk
What are the steps of ORM
- Identifying Hazards
- Assessing Hazards
- Making risk decisions
- Implementing controls
- Supervising
Define hazard severity.
An assessment of the expected consequence defined by degree of injury or occupational illness that could occur from exposure to a hazard
What are the 4 hazard severity categories
Cat 1-hazard may cause death, loss of facility/asset or result in grave damage to national interests
Cat 2-may cause severe injury, illness, property damage, damage to national or service interests.
Cat 3-minor injury, illness, property damage
Cat 4-minial threat to personnel safety or health
Define RAC and list 5 RAC’s
A structured process to identify and assess hazards. An expression of potential harm, described in terms of hazard severity, accident probability, and exposure to hazards.
- Critical Risk
- Serious Risk
- Moderate Risk
- Minor Risk
- Negligible Risk
State the 3 objectives of first aid
- Save lives
- Prevent further injury
- Prevent infection
State the 3 methods of controlling bleeding
- Direct pressure
- Pressure points
- Tourniquet
State the difference between an open and closed fracture
-Open fracture is one in which bone protrudes from the skin and closed is when the skin remains intact
Effects and treatment of hypothermia
A general cooling of the whole body caused by exposure to low or rapidly falling temperature, cold moisture, snow or ice.
-Patient should be wrapped in warm blankets in a warm room. Do not give hot drinks or other stimulants until he has regained consciousness. Get medical attention immediately.
Effects and treatment of frostbite
-superficial frostbite-ice crystals forming in upper skin layers
deep frostbite-ice crystals forming in the deeper tissues.
-treatment is to get victim indoors and warming the area by placing them in warm water. Never rub the frostbite area. Get medical attention immediately.
Effects and treatment of heat stress
Sweating and hot skin
Effects of heat exhaustion
sweating
Effects of heat stroke
No longer sweating, difficulty breathing.
-Seek medical attention immediately

HERP
Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Personnel
HERF

Define HAZMAT
Any material that because of its quantity, concentration, or physical or chemical characteristics may pose a substantial hazard to human health or the environment when purposefully released or accidentally spilled
How to store HAZMAT
Store acides separately from bases; oxidizers away from combustibles and flammables; and compressed gasses separately from other Hazardous material. Store dry materials above liquids or wet materials. Ensure containers are labeled and properly sealed. Inspect frequently for leaks
What is an MSDS and what does it provide
- Material Safety Data Sheet
- Provides users of hazardous material the dangers and precautions of that material.
- Contains: General information, emergency phone number for materials manufacturer, ingredients and identity information, characteristics, fire and explosion data, health data, first aid, precautions for safe handling and use.
