Pitting Edema
- 1+ mild (2mm depression)—disappears rapidly, no distortion
- 2+ moderate (4mm depression)—disappears in 10-15 seconds, no distortion
- 3+ deep (6mm depression)—last > minute, extremity looks swollen
- 4+ frank/severe (8mm depression)—last 2-3 minutes, grossly distorted
- Brawny edema—no pitting, hard tissues, discolored
pulse amplitude
0 = absent, no palpable 1+ = Weak, thready 2+ = Normal 3+ = Full, increased 4+ = Bounding
