Q

A teacher wants to demonstrate that the radioactive source emits alpha beta and gamma radiation
Describe a method the teacher could use

A

Move the radiation detector close to the source
Record count rate
Position the paper between the Source and the detector
Record new count rate
Alpha radiation will not pass by paper
Remove paper and put aluminium between source
Record new count rate
Beta will not pass by aluminium
The count rate past this is gamma radiation
The experiment should be repeated and calculate a mean

Q

How can you use displacement to determine an accurate value for the volume of a single coin

A

Add several coins to the measuring cylinder
Measure the change in the water level in the measuring cylinder
Divide by the number of coins added

Q

Explain what happens to the internal energy of the coolant as its temp increases

A

Kinetic energy of particles increase so the internal energy increases because it is the sum of the internal energy

Q

Explain the changes in the arrangement and movement of the particles of the argon
as the temperature of the air decreased.

A

As the argon cools down the particles slow down
As the particles cool it changes state goes from solid to liquid
Then from liquid to gas and at each stage from solid the particles move slower and the particles get closer together and density increases
As it changes from solid to liquid and then to gas the particles will collide with other particles more often and change direction more often
The particles change from being able to freely move to fixed positions to vibrating randomly and this is because internal energy of the argon decreases
