Name one function in the body for Minerals.
- forms hard structure of bones
- assists in increasing the number of red blood cells.
Name one function in the body in for water.
Helps regulate the digestive system by carrying waste out of your body through pee and poop. Your pee should be a pale yellow colour.
Name one function in the body for protein.
Repairs, grows, and maintains healthy cells throughout your body. Any excess is used to produce extra energy.

- Essential for eyesight
- Creates healthy skin and eyes

What are food miles?
The distance a product has travelled from production to consumption.
What impact do food miles have on the environment?
More food miles on a product mean greater fuel used and more green house gases produced.
What is an innovative food product?
An original and creative new product, which has never been created before.
Name 2 diet related diseases
- Anorexia
- Diabetes ( type 2 )
What are the causes of Anorexia
- cultural influences
- Lower levels of serotonin in the brain
What are the causes of Diabetes
- when the body can no longer produce insulin
What are the symptoms of Anorexia
- extreme weight loss
- fatigue
- Dizziness or fainting
What are symptoms of diabetes
- increased thirst and hunger
- frequent urination
- dramatic weight loss or gain
What is line extension?
Line extensions are when companies produce products that are similar to the original with slight changes such as the texture, flavour or appearance.
Define the term ‘me - too ‘, provide an example.
When a rival company produces a similar product to compete with the original. Eg: Nuttella and Nutino
What are the 4 P’s of the marketing mix?
Promotion- advertising, sponsorships, packaging, specials
Price- competitors price, cost per unit, position in market place ( eg is it a luxury item )
Place- shelf place, when it’s sold, Where, local competitors
Product- how is it different, what does to contain
State 2 reasons for developing new food products.
- to keep customers interested in the company and products
- to keep the business growing
