Describe the Use and Process of sound field testing

A

Place a patient in an audiometric sound field two speakers 45 degrees from the center of the patients head on either side, 3 feet away at ear level. using narrowband noise or warbled tones measure the patients thresholds at the audiometric frequencies with and without devices. difference between aided and unaided is the functional gain

Instruct your patient for an SRT exam

A

” We are going to be measuring your speech reception threshold. you will be asked to repeat a series of words, such as “Grey Hound” or “Dog Park” The volume of those words will get quieter and eventually become very difficult to hear, simply repeat as many words as you can and if you are uncertain please feel free to take a guess. Do you understand?”
