Who taught Shakespeare?
Who is the poet that taught Shakespeare? Imitating common methods won’t make you great
What is “overworking” actually
Overworking is a myth - an excuse for quitting. You can work every hour of the day & be fine - better than fine.
How much effort should you give to something you are choosing to do
Jack if you’re going to do something then put your fucking all into it
What is a thing you can decide the night before so you can make sure you’re growing on the daily?
Have a challenge of the day
What does it mean you should do when you start getting excuses to not do something that you don’t want to put the work in for?
There’s a part in the brain that is your willpower and it grows when you do things that are hard that suck but doesn’t grow when things are easy. You can tell it is being activated when you start getting excuses in your head. Keep doing something when you notice the excuses forming and you will benefit with the task but also with your overall willpower.
What is the average person’s life like and what happens if you live like them?
The average person is obese, has 1k in the bank, and is likely to get divorced. Don’t do what everyone else does unless you want the results that other people gets
What should you do if you’re bad at and bored of a new skill you’re starting?
“If you are good at something I promise you’ll enjoy doing it. The only way to get good at doing it is to learn it and be bad at it first.”
What do you have to work on to guarantee you can focus when you need to
You need to build your “no muscle” or you will never focus other than when you’re lucky
What should you do when starting a deep work session to measure how much time you actually spend working on stuff?
Start a stopwatch when you start working on something - stop it when you stop working on it. Count how much time you have really spent on it.
What should you do when you find your lower self lizard brain is flaring up begging for you to do a non-helpful behavior
Parent yourself. Your 4 year old/lizard brain will throw tantrums to get its way or just be laying in bed bc no parent told it to get up. Parent yourself. If you throw a tantrum the answer is always no.
What should you think to yourself when going through a challenging, painful activity (cold shower, sauna, exercise)
“This is very painful, and because it’s painful, it will invoke an increase in dopamine later”
What should you consider when being presented with multiple options?
Just like how the girlfriend you choose is going to be the gf you get in arguments with, when you get presented with two options, the one you don’t pick is the one you will have to live in regret of not doing. Pick the option you will regret yet. Lay out all the choices you have to make and look both in terms of how it feels to be doing each option but then also how it feels to not be doing each option.
There are too many habits you have to implement at the same time. What should you do to work around this?
All of these things are good and you should do them, but you can’t possibly follow all of these things - unless you make them a habit because then it’s automatic. Create a tracker to get to 25 days of doing something and then you can stop being so active about it.
What should you do when you keep doing a negative behavior when you’re not feeling at your most motivated?
Abstinence is the only way. If you give into something once it will happen again and again and won’t stop until you randomly become self aware about it. This is the same with positive things so you must be abstinent of NOT doing the behavior.
Why do people have regrets?
“Regrets only there cuz you didn’t learn your lesson” - Big Sean
How can you make sure you actually take the time to do something?
Unless you don’t really care if something gets done, schedule it out
Some big life change has happened. What do you do to make the most of it?
Write a 1-page life plan every time you do a future me and every time you have a change in your life (once I get a job, starting a new semester, start of winter break, after a breakup or the start of a relationship)
What breaks the barrier from not knowing someone to knowing them?
introduced myself
I need better conditions to be happy than the average person. What does that mean for my future?
People only put in work for their lives until they’re satisfied and nothing more. I am going to put in more work to be able to be satisfied than the people around me. However, that means I’m going to have a better life than the people around me. This is an advantage.
You’re about to not do something now and do it another time.
Never burden our future selves with our work
What should you do when you encounter some fear about making a decision?
Most people quit and skip things that cause them fear. Sometimes there’s just bad decisions, but sometimes you can be great just by choosing the option that was too hard for others to chose.
You are presented an option to do something that you’re pretty sure won’t be very worth it.
Say no to 99.9% of things because you have limited time and unlimited options
You have to get something done, but you would be more ready to do this thing another time.
Start when it’s hard. It can only get easier from here.
Everyone in our generation is soft. How can I use this?
Take advantage of how soft everyone is in our generations to get ahead of them.
