Q

Describe the process of stage 1 (Glycogen stores)

A

Glycogen is broken down by phosphofructokinase, into glucose-6-phosphate.
Pyruvate acid is produced

Q

Describe the Krebs cycle

A
  • Pyruvate combines with coenzyme A to produce acetyl coenzyme A
  • Acetyl coenzyme A combines with oxalaecitic acid to form citric acid
  • Citric acid is oxidised which then gives 2 moles ATP, hydrogen atom, and CO2

Q

Describe the ETC

A
  • Hydrogen atoms from Krebs cycle are split into ions and electrons
  • Hydrogen ions react with oxygen to form water
  • Hydrogen electrons give energy for ATP re-synthesis - 34 moles ATP!!
