Drones: single accompaniment

A

The council of trans main goal was trying to bring people back to church. Their solution was through music that would entertain rather than pray and proclaim to God.

What was religious music like in the renaissance?

A

Renaissance Moutet: always religious based more morphed from traditional masses, imitative, polyphony word, painting
Corral: written in strophic form, which is same melody, different words mostly in German religious based off scriptures and poems normally sung with four separate voices, Bach contributed to this
Requiem: pieces wrote for the dead structured similarly to older traditional masses often in Latin a direct translation is give them rest

What was secular music of the Renaissance like?

A

One. Not much existed.
Two. Idea of Motets can be secular or sacred mostly in Latin for a church purposes. It is always sacred.
Three. Magic golfs: mostly secular, written in vernacular language, meaning everybody understood, text describes pastoral scenes affairs of the heart word painting is used to identify the expression, hidden sexual meetings with the most of the songs sang and small groups.
