A
Formed by 2 sets of bones: cranial & facial
Skull protects brain and some sensory organs
It rests & pivots on superior end of vertebral column
Cranium is what contains

Facial bones enclose front of brain and form openings for eyes, nasal, and oral cavities
All bones (except mandible) joined by sutures (immovable joints held together by connective tissue)

A
At base of cranium is occipital (1) bone, where spinal cord and blood vessels pass through
Parietal (2), temporal (2), and sphenoid (2) bones comprise sides and uppermost portion of cranium
Frontal bone (1) forms forehead
