The atmosphere Flashcards
(17 cards)
Classroom atmosphere
Learning environment and the impact that a classroom and all its components can have on students and staff which can be beneficial or not in the learning process.
Good classroom environment
Consider the physical materials such as the student’s seating, the teacher’s location, additional resources, and wall decorations among others.
Different types of chair arrangements
Encourage different types of behavior in the class.
Additional resources
Books, computers, games, or others
Wall decorations
Help students to keep on learning information when they are looking around.
Brown, (2001) implies that arranging the chairs lined up in columns on the front wall of the room
is the worst way to organize them.
Circle in the horseshoe
Its advantage is that everyone in the room can see each other, and they can see the board as well. Also, this formation allows students to stand in the middle for kinesthetic activities.
Grouping students
Students work in pairs or fours.
Arrangement A.
Divide groups of four and that helps kids do individual work, pair work, and group work, and it also leaves some space in the middle of the classroom, which gives room to play, tell stories, do role plays, etc.
Arrangement B
Makes peer work easy. It doesn’t encourage natural communication though.
Arrangement C
Helps students’ peer work and leaves you some space in the middle of the classroom to do playful activities.
Classroom monitors and jobs
Students should be able to be responsible for their possessions. A daily routine that students can easily follow should be established. Some extra activities must be completed on their own. Make sure students have all the necessary supplies to achieve the given goals.
Respect your classroom (three rules).
First rule
To respect yourself and others. Be nice to yourself and others. It implies being careful with things that people do or say knowing the fact that it is not possible to take those actions or words back after they have been done and said.
Second rule
To respect property. This means avoiding using or damaging others’ property in any way
Third rule
To accomplish this, kids need to cooperate and obey someone who is asking them to do something right and reasonable.
Four ideas to overcome shyness
Give students a challenge that they can handle. Take yourself out of the rescue loop. Let consequences that come with their choice happen. And Affirm students’ courage by giving them another chance to do the same task.
Classroom meetings
These conversations can be used as opportunities to teach problem-solving. To organize the discussion topics, place a box where kids can put written suggestions, comments, or concerns. Let them use private letters by using any sort of symbol so you can address the issue privately.
