The Auditory Nervous System ILO 3 Ascending Auditory Pathway Flashcards
(13 cards)
Name the three sections of the ascending auditory pathway
Brainstem, Midbrain, Forebrain
What does CN stand for?
Cochlea Nucleus
What does SOC stand for?
superior olivary complex
What two places do signals pass through in the Brainstem?
Cochlea Nucleus and Superior Olivary Complex
What process is happening in the brainstem?
Binaural Processing. This is the first stage of interaction of signals from both sides with parallel pathways.
What process is happening in the Midbrain?
reintegration of the auditory image. It has auditory inputs and visual inputs linking sound to what we see or feel.
What process is happening in the Forbrain?
Integration with other modalities, conciousness
What two parts make up the midbrain
Lateral lemniscus and inferior colliculus
What two parts make up the Forebrain
Medial geniculate body, auditory cortex
If a sound signal enters the right ear, what hemisphere of the brain will the signal go?
Left Hemisphere (contralateral)
The Ventral Cochlear Nucleus connects contralaterally to where?
The superior olivary complex
The Dorsal Cochlear nucleus connects contralterally to where?
The Inferior Colliculus
How do you measure the frequency passband of a neuron?
You measure its tuning curve
