Q

why the firs day of the somme went badly

A
  1. the first part failed, the germans hid in dugouts and survived. The survivors massacred the British who didn’t expect any resistance
  2. Even dough the first part of the plan didn’t work the plan wasn’t changed since Heigh did not have a plan B
  3. The barbed wire was not destroyed the shells simply made it a bigger mess wiving the Germans more time to shoot the British
